Week 3

Week 3 - Room 8 is a busy little place to be...

Here we are making our little finger muscles stronger with fine motor activities.

We learnt about the importance of having strong finger muscles for handwriting and story writing. The stronger they are, the easier it will be for us to write stories which is important for little authors in training.

Look at the concentration on our faces...

Picking up beans with tweezers can be a bit tricky

Threading beads is not as easy as it looks but the more we practise the easier it gets

Bean sorting with tweezers and Pick up sticks with a peg. These activities need a lot of concentration.

Our second Table Tennis lesson

We enjoyed our second table tennis lesson.
We started with a warm up of follow the leader. We had a buddy to follow or lead

Next Mrs Blau dropped a ball in front of us and we had to pat the ball, once on our side and get it over the net and into the container on the other side.

Oh so tricky! But, practise makes permanent!

We finished our lesson with patting the balloons on the racquet.
This time, it was a lot easier.

Next...

Here we are after a few writing lessons.

We are getting a lot better at being little authors.

We have remembered to leave spaces or driveways (as Mrs Blau calls them) between our words. There is so many things to remember when we write. But we are doing a great job of practising.

Here we are reading from our group reading boxes.

We started formal reading this week. Lots of new things to learn each week.

We started learning how to...

Say the parts of a book - front cover, back cover, spine and title page

Predict what the story is about, by looking at the front cover

Predict what words might be on each page by looking at the pictures

Point to each word we are reading

Work out the tricky words by using the pictures

The Butterflies

 The Lady Bugs

The Busy Bees

Next...

Here we are creating our Greedy Cat pictures

First we drew the outline on sugar paper with chalk then we sponge painted the orange and brown.

Table 3

Table 2

Table 1

Here we are with Room 19
using our Key Competencies
in the sandpit for buddy class.

We are...
Sharing ideas
Playing cooperatively
Collaborating on tasks
Problem solving
Negotiating

Week 2

Week 2 - New Experiences

We learnt how to play new games that help us learn.

Here we are playing a sight word fishing game.

This is Alphabet Bingo

Here we are on our first day of formal writing

We had a big discussion about writing. We talked about our favourite stories and how they were written by people called authors. We discussed why it is important to learn to write.

Then, before we started writing we talked about the tools we need to be a successful writer.

As a class, we came up with a tool kit for writing...

Book / Paper
Pencil
Spacer stick
Word Card
Colour pencils
Casey Caterpillar Wall Frieze
Jolly Phonics Wall Frieze
Jolly Phonics Alternative Sounds poster

First we had to learn where to draw our picture to plan our writing...

It is important to fill the space with lots of detail, this helps us to write our stories...

Next we had to remember to start at the margin and use a capital letter to start our sentence...

Then we had to put all the sounds we learnt in Transition Class together to create words.

We are currently little authors in training...

Week 1

Week 1 - Getting to know each other...

Week one was very exciting as we got to know each other and all the rules of the classroom.

We made our Pinehill Dolls.

We learnt to tear, arrange and paste bits of paper onto a paper doll to create a collage of ourselves in our school uniform.

Next...

Mrs Blau got to know some of the things we like when we dyed the 'My Favourite Things' bees and flowers.
We told Mrs Blau some of our favourite things.

Some of the things included...

Favourite Food

Favourites toys

Favourite things to do after school

Favourite places to go in the weekend

This is our Star Clip Chart

Mrs Blau gave us all a peg with our name on it. We put our peg on the clip chart.
During the day we get to move our peg up or down for...

Being on task
Focusing on our work
Actively listening
Working independently
Asking questions
Answering questions
 Contributions to classroom learning
Helping others
Showing our best Pinehill manners
Walking the Pinehill Talk

Our pegs start on Ready to Learn every morning. They move up or down depending on what we do throughout the day.

At the end of the day we get out our take home chart and fill in the colour that we landed on. We take that home and show Mum and Dad. This gives them the opportunity to see what fabulous learners we have been throughout the day. They see and sign our take home chart and we start on Ready to Learn on the next school day.

If we land on Outstanding by the end of the day, we get to have a small sticker or gem on our pegs. Once we get 5 stickers. Mrs Blau displays our peg on the Hall of Fame! Then we get a new peg to start all over again.

If we get to Outstanding early in the day and we are still on task and super focused. Mrs Blau wears our peg to show how fabulous we have been!
